On Target with Inexpensive Organic
Trips to Target are an inevitable guilty pleasure in my life.
I love Method cleaning supplies, candles and laundry products, was looking forward to the organic collection designed by Rogan all spring and was thrilled to find ADORABLE baby clothes, crib bumpers and a number of other supplies there in the “eco-friendly” shopping section of their website.
Finally, a mass-merchandiser who get’s it and is offering great looking, organic clothing at convenient prices. I am thrilled to be able to still shop Target for all of the upcoming baby showers I’m attending and have a few sustainable choices on hand.

Method isn’t all that earth friendly or non toxic…read the ingredients on their hand soap. sodium Laurel Sulfate and 2 ingredients that have about 27 letters in them. Not to mention the obscure “fragrance” and dyes. If you can’t even pronounce it then it can’t be good for you.
Cynthia - good point on the SLS in Method soaps, but I was more referring to their cleaning supplies, candles and laundry products, which are a good alternative to other brands since they are biodegradable, HE capable and soy-based (candles). A lot of “organic” companies, especially Avalon have come under fire lately for using known carcinogens. If you are looking for a good soap without SLS, try Burt’s Bees.
Hmmm, every trip I make to Target I look for the truly organic stuff and was convinced they only sold it online. I’ll have to ask a sales person for the Rogan line - thanks for the tip. In terms of diapers, skin care, and bedding, I guess they are waiting for the demand to grow before using up valuable shelf space. I’m not impressed with any of their current in-store offerings.
I know from first hand that organic cotton clothing is a great way to naturally alleviate some skin conditions.
That is an easy call since conventional methods of cotton production use such harsh chemicals.
I have heard some varying numbers on the amount, but everyone agrees the chemicals just are bad for the earth and us.
“Traditional cotton production also attributes to 25% of worldwide insecticide use and 10% of worldwide pesticide use.”

I have been to Target and have not seen their organic line. However, I have been purchasing organic baby clothing for friends at http://www.myobaby.com, they have great gift sets and easy mix and match sets.
AffordableBabyOrganics.com is a store that specializes in making organics affordable to the average family. Their onesies for example, are 100% organic cotton and are priced below $10. Everywhere else I have looked online (except target) are upwards of $20 per onesie. It is about time people start selling affordable organics!
