Eco Kids' Clothes: Fun and Funky Organic Tanks by Regionz Kidz

by Jennifer Lance on September 2, 2008

regionzkidz organic tanksFounded last year, RegionzKidz is the first company I have come across that combines eco-friendly clothing with cultural sensitivity.  Caricature images of toddlers from various ethnic backgrounds and settings are featured on 100% organically grown cotton tanks from American Apparel. You can chose your image options, which are printed using water-based inks.

Created by a local artist, RegionzKidz multicultural clothing features eight characters (four boys, our girls) in four ethnicities (Caucasian, Hispanic, African-American, Asian).  You can also chose the design style for the child on the organic tank:

  • Armed forces
  • Baseball
  • Football
  • Desert
  • Beach
  • Cowboy/girl
  • Farm
  • City
  • Mountain
  • Snow
  • Police
  • Firefighter
  • Fancy/princess
  • Super hero

You can even get a matching “Mamaz” T-shirt. RegionzKidz also provides multicultural education products, such as cds with activities and flashcards celebrating diversity and unity.

We live in a diverse world, and children are naturally innocent to the prejudices that exist in adults.  Prejudices are learned, and young children’s questions about diversity are honest, although they may sound offensive if said by an adult, and should be answered honestly.  Corporate products usually lack an accurate reflection of our multicultural society, and we have yet to see an African-American Disney princess.  I hope RegionzKidz has started a trend that will continue for all children’s clothing and products.

I have known Lisa for some time now. Her concepts are so wonderful – unique, fun and welcoming. Her artist (Jeff) was just nominated for an Emmy, too, and will be attending the Emmy Awards in Hollywood for his design work in movies. Pretty cool – my t-shirts and tote bag from Regionz Kidz brag the designs of Emmy nominee (and perhaps winner!) Jeff West – whoo, hoo! Way to go Jeff and way to go Lisa for knowing a great business concept and a great talent from the get go!!! :-)
