Slavery is indeed cruel and unjust. Voluntary child labor is not wrong by the very fact that it's voluntary. In fact, it can help to reduce poverty by providing a source of income that might otherwise not exist. This distinction often gets lost in the discussion because of the emotional reaction members of advanced societies have toward children working.
