I don’t have a microwave either, so a heating pad alternative would be appreciated. Is a hot water bottle the way to go?

Very similar, but we’ve always used rice bags in my family. My grandmother made them for everyone. They do hold the heat for a long time. They aren’t cute, but my kids seem okay with that.

These are wonderful to have in the home! I’ve got 2 shaped like giant band aids and they get used a LOT. Not only for boo boos and sickies, but we use them as bedwarmers on chilly nights too – they keep feet nice and toasty warm.
