I saw a Tesla at an event last night and I just stood there like a slobbering geek in the parking lot.

For the first 4 years of our marriage when we were childless from '98-'02, we shared an '88 Honda Civic hatchback. When our DD was born, we bought a Toyota Matrix wagon new. We looked at the 1st generation Prius and the Civic Hybrid but it didn't make financial sense given gas prices at the time & we didn't have the disposable cash to pay a premium for a hybrid.

In 2004, the Matrix was totaled on our way home from Mass on Christmas Eve when an elderly lady lost control of her vehicle, swerved into my lane, and hit us head-on. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt (thank goodness for the airbag!)

Again, we looked at hybrids but gas prices were still too low for it to make financial sense. So we bought another Matrix.

We're still driving it, but will probably need to bite the bullet and get a larger vehicle some time next year once our 3rd outgrows the infant car seat. I can squeeze 2 boosters & the infant car seat into the back seat of the Matrix, but there's no way I can do 2 boosters and a regular car seat.

DH is hoping to be in a financial position to afford the 2nd generation Tesla Model S as a second car once it becomes available in 2010.

We have a Prius... I LOVE it. I even stuff THREE kids in carseats in the back. They love it. :)

Looked at a 1986 Diesel Suburban yesterday, they are selling it for $500... it's a piece, but hey we could convert it to a grease guy. There is a guy right here in Portland who does that. I might have to rethink that old beast.
