Bamboo Leg Huggers: Eco Chic for Baby

Here at Eco Child’s Play, we like baby leg warmers. We’ve featured organic cotton Leggies and BabyLegs. Today I get to tell you about Bamboo Leg Huggers for your little one. These are absolutely adorable (by far the cutest I’ve seen) and are made out of fast growing bamboo fibers.

I can appreciate the practicality of Leg Huggers for every baby. It’s awesome to keep your little ones legs covered during diaper changes, to not expose several inches of precious baby skin when their pants creep up while being carried and to have knee protection when they are crawling.

My only disappointment with Leg Huggers is the lack of baby boy patterns. Little boys need the warmth and comfort as much as any baby. Where are the stripes, cars and animal faces we’d put on the baby boys?

Unlike other baby leggings, these are made from bamboo fibers. Why bamboo? Because it is rapid growing (a meter per day!), absorbs more greenhouse gases (then cotton) and produces more oxygen. Bamboo is also extremely soft and silky which makes Leg Huggers comfortable to wear.

“If all that weren’t enough, bamboo apparel is good for our ecosystems because bamboo does not require pesticides, insecticides, or fertilizers, and does not involve the use of genetically modified organisms.

Most importantly, bamboo fibers are biodegradable. Imagine that, clothing that looks good, feels good and is good for the environment.”- Leg Huggers Website

Now, let’s get back to the cuteness factor for a minute. Check these out:

Seriously, you can eat these up! Leg Huggers are $10.00 a pair and for Eco Child’s Play readers, they are offering a 10% discount until March 1, 2009. Just enter MomLeg10 at checkout.

These are cute but strangely enough they only have girl patterns and colors. What is that about?

I hear ya Tiffany… that was something I pointed out as well… odd, because Baby Boys need warm legs as well!

Well, I generally avoid such black/white distinctions as “boy’s clothes” and “girl’s clothes”, I think the idea that pink=girl and blue=boy is arbitrary and silly, and that boys should be able to like and wear hearts and flowers just as easily as girls should be able to like and wear trucks and dinosaurs.

That being said, it is quite obvious that these legs are created for the “girly girl” market. My response is not so much “where are the boy colours”, but “where are the non-frilly options”. Girls can wear blue and black and green too!

Perhaps these are a fairly new product, and their “cute and frilly” colour options are just their first line?
