Cocoa Camino: Chocolate With Heart for Valentine’s

With Valentine’s Day coming up, in our home thoughts are turning to celebrating with fair trade, organic chocolate like Cocoa Camino.

Cocoa Camino is a line of premium Fair Trade Certified and certified organic chocolate, cocoa and sugar products produced by the Canadian La Siembra Co-operative.  These products include chocolate bars, sugar, hot chocolate, cocoa, chocolate chips, syrup and couverture.  They’re sold in natural health food stores, pharmacies and grocery stores.

Why spend extra money on organic chocolate like Cocoa Camino?   Cocoa is known to be among the most pesticide-intensive crops.  Cocoa Camino uses organic cocoa that is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

“Organic and shade grown agricultural techniques encourage careful stewardship of the environment to improve cocoa quality and yields,” says the cooperative. “This helps to ensure environmental sustainability and healthy communities for the future.”

The cooperative also uses organic sugar that is minimally processed, harvested by hand, and without added chemicals or bleaching.

All Cocoa Camino products are certified Fair Trade by TransFair Canada and undergo the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) monitoring process.   That Fair Trade logo ensures the payment of guaranteed fair prices and the payment of Fair Trade premiums.
