Win 4 Reusable Chico Bags!

Win four reusable chico bagsWe love reusable shopping bags, but sometimes, it’s hard to remember to take them into the store. I’ve gotten much better about bringing my bags into the grocery store (I only have to run out to the car about once every two months now from the checkout line), but remembering my bags at other stores is a challenge. I usually walk out with my arms full of merchandise and fill my bags at the car.

I really like ChicoBags for shopping at stores, not just the natural food store. They sling over my shoulder (and my kids’ shoulders) easily and ball up nicely to fit inside my purse.  Reusable bags are such a simple step we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint, but why is it so hard to remember to use them?

Using ChicoBag’s reusable tote bags reduces waste because they are long lasting and promote reuse. ChicoBag will even recycle your reusable bags when you are done with them. What makes ChicoBags better than many other reusable grocery bags is the compact pouch that is sewn into the seam on the interior of the tote bag. ChicoBags make it easy to carry a reusable shopping tote at all times. Single-use paper and plastic bags are harmful to the environment and use up 32% of landfill space because they can take hundreds of years to decompose. Americans use between 300 and 700 plastic bags per person each year, on average. 100 billion plastic shopping bags are used annually in the United States.

Thanks to Two Knobby Tires, we are giving away four Chico reusable bags to one lucky Eco Child’s Play reader. To enter, simply leave a comment to this post explaining your strategy for remembering to bring your reusuable bags into the store.  The winner will be selected randomly from the comments on Wednesday, February 25, 2009.  Good luck, and don’t forget those bags!

  1. I keep my bags on a shelf near the front door. I have still been known to forget them though. Someday it will become an automatic habit!

  2. keep the ba

  3. I have a bumper sticker on my car that says something like “Ditch the plastic… Bring Your Own Bag!”

So I’m more motivated to remember to bring my cloth bags because it’s embarrassing to be seen loading my trunk with plastic bags with that bumper sticker right there. I feel like a public hypocrite, like I’m being publicly “activist” with the bumper sticker then not following my own advice, not being a good example.

I have other bumper stickers as well, choose fair trade, “Children behave as well as they are treated”, “Babies are Born Potty-Trained”, and Green Party. They’re just as much reminders for ME to keep my philosophies and priorities in mind, as they are to “advertise” or proselytize to others who might read them.

  4. I empty the bags when I get back from shopping and put them right back into the trunk of my car. That way I always have them the next time I shop

  5. The first thing I put on my grocery list is “grocery bags” - although that doesn’t help much if I forget my grocery list too……..

  6. I throw my reusable bags in front of the door, and hope I grab them and get them on the front seat of the car, with my purse. then I have to grab them to bring into the store. Usually I can do both these things, but not always!

  7. Mine live in the back seat of the car! Very handy.

  8. I have all my bigger bags in my trunk, which I’m usually able to remember for grocery shopping. Then I have to that fold up in my diaper bag. The main problem comes when I go shopping without my son/diaper bag, then I have trouble remembering.

  9. I just rely on my memory! I keep them in the house and when I am getting my purse and things ready to go, I (hopefully) remember to grab them as I go out the door. They sit on my seat so I see them easily when I get out of my care at the store. surprisingly, I remember them almost every time!

  10. I don’t have a good way to remember them yet. I am always forgetting them in the trunk! I like the suggestion others have to put them on the front seat of the car.
