Heather Dunham recently wrote in praise of Maranatha Nut Butters… our family agrees that these fabulous spreads are worthy of praise, and we are pleased to offer a GIVE AWAY from MaraNatha (pronounced “mare-uh-Nah-thuh”).

I’m thrilled that not only are these nut butters produced in the United States and are in NO WAY related to any peanut butter recalls from PCA, but also that the MaraNatha Nut Butter Company facility is right here in Oregon (you may recall reading about Ashland and low vaccine rates on ECP).

Here is some information provided by MaraNatha about the Peanut Butter Recall and why we should continue to consume safe nut butters: (Stay with us after the jump for the GIVE AWAY)

“According to a recent poll conducted by Harvard School of Public Health many parents have completely eliminated peanut butter from their family’s diets due to the salmonella outbreak caused by peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America even though jarred peanut butter was not affected by the recall. It is OK to restock your shelves with this delicious, healthy source of protein. MaraNatha natural and organic peanut butters were NOT affected by the recall and are completely safe.

Here are just a few reasons to love peanut butter:

  • Peanuts contain more protein than any other legume or nut and they are rich in fiber, Vitamin E, Manganese, Niacin and Folate.
  • Peanuts are high in monounsaturated “good” fats and low in LDL “bad” fats.
  • Peanut butter is rich in reservatrol, an antioxidant in red wine that has been linked to cardiovascular health.
  • Compared to conventional peanut butters, MaraNatha’s natural and organic peanut butters have 85% less sodium per serving, no preservatives and Maranatha’s line also includes no salt, no sugar and organic options.

MaraNatha sources peanuts from only approved growers and the company’s stringent food safety and quality control standards include the testing of all peanuts that come into the facility in Ashland, Oregon.  100% of MaraNatha nut butter production takes place at the Ashland facility, a facility that is dedicated entirely to the production of MaraNatha products.”

My fridge always contains a jar of MaraNatha almond butter and we continue to enjoy peanut butter on a daily basis.  Nut butters are a favorite on sandwiches, topping apple and banana slices or in no bake cookies and almond butter bars (head over to Elana’s Pantry for our favorite Almond Butter Blondie recipe… it’s Gluten Free/Dairy Free/Refined Sugar Free).

Now for the GIVE AWAY- MaraNatha is offering a prize package to one of our lucky readers.  The prize package includes three $5.00 coupons for MaraNatha Nut Butters, a yoga mat and a yoga DVD (prize package valued at $75.00).  Contest is open to residents of the United States.  To enter visit MaraNatha’s website and leave a comment here telling us what you like best about the products or the company (While you are there, enter their yoga weekend give-away).  One winner will be selected by random number generation (which sometimes means my four year old gets to pick a number out of a hat) on Thursday, April 2nd.  The winner will be posted on ECP and notified via email.  Comments are open until 7am PST on Thursday, April 2nd.
