Wow! Part-time enrollment is a great option. I admire anyone that home-schools. It takes a lot of dedication. I used to work within schools, so I know how hard it is to educate a child.

I am always disappointed when I hear budget cuts in Education. I truly believe Education can cure most social problems.

You're lucky that your district offers part-time enrollment. I would love to homeschool math & English in the mornings (those are the ones where she's working quite a bit above grade-level) and then outsource the other subjects. Unfortunately, our district has an all-or-nothing policy :-(

I think this is a great intro article for those thinking about options other than public schooling.

One way to sum up this article is to say that curriculum costs for alternatives to public school education are very flexible, determined mainly by not what kind of topics you want your children to learn, but rather, how you want your children to learn.

Another excellent option for environmentally conscious parents looking for other options is Clackamas Web Academy. A hybrid model that supplements on-line curriculum with science labs, SWERP (stream water restoration project with PSU), volunteer projects at local nonprofits (including SOLV, Clackamas Parks, Watershed restoration, etc.), internships & FREE college credits at CCC.
