Like many other kids, I was not careful in the sun when I was a kid. It's never too late, but sun protection starts at infancy. Nowadays, hopefully the parents have sufficient knowledge and know what to do. I also learned a lot at this site http://www.sun-protection-and-you.com/organic-sunscreen.html which shows you additional information about sun protection and natural sunscreen.

Our oceans are not a waste basket, but every time you take a dive with chemical sunscreen on your skin, you are polluting the ocean.l

Terri: here are the ingredients that are a concern - and there are quite a few of them. This is neither organic nor safe. This contains nano – Titanium which is bad stuff.. There are a lot of bad chemcals in this too. My main concern is health which is why I looked at Azur.

It turns out that Azur is one of those products that bills itself as natural and good for you but is full of synthetics and lots of toxic ingredients. A wanna-be.

Here are the ingredients that I found listed on the package that are toxic (I used the environmental working group database on cosmetic ingredients which I learned about from Azur’s own website- http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com):

CYCLOPENTASILOXANE – One or more animal studies show endocrine disruption

TOCOPHERYL ACETATE – Human skin toxicant – Tests on animal cells show mutations – (nasty stuff)

PHENOXYETHANOL- Use restricted in cosmetics- endocrine disruptor and shows sense organ effects at low doses, Cancer risk

OCTYLDODECANOL- One or more animal studies show sense organ effects at moderate doses

HEXYLENE GLYCOL-Known human immune system toxicant –

Nano-sized Titanium Dioxide. One article is here: http://www.organicmakeup.ca/TitaniumDioxide.htm

I think that it is important to realize that we have become a "sun-phobic" in this day and age. There are studies that now suggest skin cancer has more to do with genetics than sun and that sun screen can be harmful to us as well as ecosystems we do not even know we are hurting. While no one wants a sunburn, because they hurt, we should be talking about when to go in the shade instead of when to lather up. We have also been able to significantly restore ozone depletion which let in harmful levels of radiation from the atmosphere... Does the Environmental Working Group talk about which sunscreens will not contribute to coral bleaching? This has become a major issue of our time and most people do not even realize it is due to the sunscreens we use... and reapply... and reapply while at the beach. It would be like putting sunscreen on your flowers... Here are some links if you want more information:
