Cheating My Way Through Parties

I love to entertain.

Who doesn’t love a party? I’m having an Inauguration Watching party at my house next week. I planned on ten attending because everyone is so busy and whatnot, right?

Wrong.

Everyone is going to work late. Everyone will be here. Everyone will be hungry.

Excuse me a moment while I freak out! I’ve got service for 15, how am I supposed to have an oatmeal bar without bowls? It’s my secret weapon, and if you promise to keep it a secret, I’ll let you in on it.

I shop at Goodwill and Salvation Army. That’s right. Before a swanky party I’ll run to a thrift shop and buy plates and silver that are charmingly mismatched for pennies each. I run them through the dishwasher, use them for party day, rinse them again. And then do you want to know what I do?

I donate them.

That’s right. There’s no room for more junk in my kitchen. I don’t want to own 75 teaspoons and I’m completely unwilling to have plastic ware in the house…

So yeah, those ladies with the really long imdb pages, they’re eating off of second hand silver. Saving money never tasted so sweet.
