Coupon Savings for “Greener” Products

Posted in:

I’m becoming a coupon junkie… you know, the slightly crazy lady who gets to the check-out with a cart full of groceries and 30 minutes later hands the cashier $15.78.  Yep, I’m there.

As such, I ALWAYS pick up the Sunday paper… two or three if there are a lot of valuable coupons inside. (I always recycle the paper after using it for art projects, wrapping, cleaning windows, etc…).

This week I was surprised at the number of coupons for “natural” or “green” products.  While I would dispute the green-ness of several of this products, I am pleased to see the mainstream corporations finally making steps in the right direction.  (But listen up Huggies, there is a LONG way to go yet).

Between the SmartSource and RedPlum coupon fliers, I found the following coupons:

$3.00 off Hugges Pure & Natural Diapers (which really aren’t all that fabulous, but we will get to that in another post).

$1.00 off Hefty Basics Paper Plates… stronger and biodegradable in home composting (this is important, many biodegradable items only break down under industrial compost conditions).

$.75 off Scott greener clean products.  At least they are called “greener” instead of green, natural, etc… this one doesn’t mislead the consumer into believing you are getting a perfectly environmentally responsible product, but that it is better than the alternative.  These products are made with natural and recycled materials.

Free Marcal smallsteps paper product (single roll bath tissue, towel or box of facial tissue).  $1.00 off Marcal smallsteps.   These products are made using 100% recycled fibers, have no added dyes or fragrance and are made without the use of chlorine bleach.  Marcal is a cost effective option in recycled paper products.

$1.00 off Scott Naturals (2 coupons).  It’s about time Kimberly-Clark listened to our outrage and began using recycled fibers.  Bath tissue is 40% recycled, towels are 60% and napkins are 80%.  They still have a long way to go… but this is a step in the right direction.  Now when all Scott products are made from recycled fibers, I will stand up and cheer.

$1.00 off/2 six packs Hansen’s Natural Soda. Yay!  We buy this occasionally for our kiddos as a treat and I’m thrilled to find a coupon! ‘
