Is it possible for a family of five to take a road trip from Michigan to Las Vegas in at least a little bit of an eco-friendly way? I really don’t know. I’ve looked into some eco-friendly options but so far I’m not finding what we need or just not finding it in our price range.
Las Vegas has a few eco-hotels but they aren’t exactly kid friendly. I’m sure there will be other hotels along the way in other cities that are. We will be driving right through Denver, Colorado. I am sure they must have plenty of eco-options.
You are probably wondering why on earth we would want to take a family trip to Vegas, not the most family friendly place. And driving? Yes, it is a really long drive. Over 2000 miles…one way.
Well, my husband wants to visit his father in Las Vegas and had the idea that we should drive out there this summer with the kids (I don’t do planes). See his father isn’t doing too well and he’s never had the opportunity to meet our youngest, Robby. And he can no longer fly to us because originally we were going to get him an airplane ticket so he could come to us. Now that’s not an option.
We considered renting an RV so we wouldn’t have to stay at any hotels but OMG! They are sooo expensive. And I only found one eco-RV rental placeĀ in the US…in Arizona. That’s not helping me any.
Even just regular rental vehicles are expensive and to get what we need for five people, ideally a van, yeah right. And in an eco-friendly version…not happening. Still super expensive.
I had thought green had come a long way but I see now that not everything is available in green yet, at least not for normal people that do not haveĀ unlimited incomes.
If anyone has an ideas for an eco-friendly was to get from Michigan to Las Vegas or suggestions for eco stops along the way please let me know. I really would love to travel in some shade of green.

Nice to see others are thinking about it. If you look at my blog, http://whatisyourshade.blogspot.com this is exactly the issues that need to be discussed. For a lot of Americans, especially this year, green options just are cost friendly yet.
It is all about Shades of Green. Figure out where you can be green, do your best, and encourage more options for the future. Good Luck on your plans!

Check out what we did . . . at http://www.greenfamilysummer.com. I wouldn’t call it “inexpensive,” but if you begin to change your driving and consumption habits now (by choosing a Hybrid vehicle and carbon offsets) you can really make a difference. The savings in gas more than pay for the carbon offsets, in the end.
