Most expectant parents plan to send out some type of birth announcement to introduce their new one to the world. And who can blame them? Babies are precious and a joy to be shared!
Being mindful parents, we want to make sure that everything we do (including those birth announcements) are kinder to our great planet. The announcement which resides in your childs memory book will also serve as a reminder to them over the years about your commitment to raise them green.
The best way is to avoid phyiscal announcements altogether and set up a Baby Blog. Blogs are FREE and online, so no products are used to create them. You can change the look and update daily with new baby happenings and photos. Another bonus to an online blog is the ability to share details of the pregnancy and instant news of baby’s arrival. Spread the word about your baby blog via email.
If you really must have an announcement to mail out and save in baby’s memory book… then go with a greener option such as Earth Baby Announcements by My Good Greetings. The printer is a Bay Area Certified Green Business, the card and envelope stock are 100% recycled, the paper products are FSC certified and the company uses eco friendly packaging.
Of course, these announcements also meet most parents number one requirement: CUTENESS.
There are limitless options out there for those of us who like to create. Make homemade lollipops or chocolate candy pops and attach a photo with baby stats. Puree up your recycling in the blender with some water… drop in some flower seeds (and maybe dried flowers as well) and spread to dry on a screen. Now you have your own PLANTABLE paper to send baby’s announcement out on. Seed packets and flower bulbs also make a nice addition to a birth announcement (and a reminder to get growing!).
Whatever you choose, remember the earth. Foil papers, plastic doo-dads, artificial candy and other such rigamaroll are not environmentally friendly options. Start your little one off right… with a respect for our world and those within it.

Good ideas here! We like to use youtube – my wife has family and friends in China, and can see movies of the kids with youtube.
