Etsy Finds for Baby: Handmade, Eco Friendly and Fabulous

I loves me some Etsy Shops. What’s not to love? There are three shops based out of Portland, OR (my hometown) which I am just thrilled with and wanted to share. Isn’t it great having that perogative?

Take this adorable onesie from BurdyFlyAway. It’s hand-dyed, organic cotton, appliqued with ecospun felt (made from recycled plastic bottles) and says, “i heart trees”. Each item is unique, truly a one of a kind because of the hand dyeing process and applique technique. (Not every item is organic cotton, so choose wisely.)

BurdyFlyAway also makes fabulous t-shirt dresses for Mama… they aren’t organic cotton but otherwise the process is the same.

Then there are FABULOUS felted wool booties at prettylittle by Lacey Smith. These booties are hand crocheted so each pair of booties are unique. Wool is an environmentally friendly fiber. It is biodegradable, durable, naturally water resistant and flame retardant. Wool is also naturally elastic so there are no worries of constricting babies foot development. These adorable booties can be custom made to fit your child or ordered up in standard sizing. Lacey will also whip up a pair of doll booties if you desire. I’m thinking they would make a great find in my daughters Easter baskets. (Hmmm… wonder if she’s thought about diaper covers.)

Another favorite of mine are these wonderful wooden blocks by bumbleandberry. They are handmade using non-toxic and lead free paints and are hand sanded. The set of 12 blocks showcase all 26 letters of the alphabet and numbers 1-10. There are fabric blocks available as well.

I have a baby shower coming up toward month’s end… now the dilemma is which to get for the new little bundle of joy?

Etsy is great for eco-friendly products of all kinds. What really sucks is that when the CPSIA goes into effect in a couple of days, any seller who is making items for kids and babies likely won’t be able to sell their products anymore unless they undergo ridiculously expensive testing 🙁 So now’s a good time to shop for them if you’re looking.
