Live a greener, healthier life!

"On The Day You Were Born" Book Review

When I was pregnant with my younger son, I discovered this book–just in the nick of time!

On The Day You Were Born is the perfect baby shower or 1st birthday gift. Or even a great thing to tuck away and give to a babe the first time you meet!

On the day you were born the round planet Earth turned toward your morning sky, whirling past darkness, spinning the night into light.

It is truly a modern-day classic, celebrating both birth and the wonders of the Earth simultaneously.

Best off, it’s a great way to celebrate each birthday. This year, I read it to my almost 4-year-old on the eve of his birthday, just before telling him his birth story.

On the day you were born the quiet Moon glowed and offered to bring a full, bright face, each month, to your windowsill.

It isn’t so much a story as it is poetry. Author and illustrator Debra Frasier shows the interconnectedness of everything, from the trees that make oxygen for you to breath to the animals that passed the word of your birth.

Then, with a push, you slipped out of the dark quiet where suddenly you could hear a circle of people singing…’We are so glad you’ve come!’

Talk about starting reverence for the Earth early! Goodnight Moon and Guess How Much I Love You are indeed classic gifts. But if you want a book that parents will love reading to their intrigued little ones, give them a copy of On the Day You Were Born.

Hi! I read your tweet about this book & now i took a look on the book… Wonderful! Great tip! I’ll check if there is a translated book here in Brazil… If not i’ll have to buy it in English and try to translate myself so my friends who are living the motherhood will be able to understand (hahaha)… Thanks for sharing this tip! Have a nice day! Daniela
PS.: Sorry, my blog is not available on english version yet…. But is about sustainability… See you!
