If you are making the switch to a greener life for your children, a good place to begin (besides growing and buying organic food) is with beauty products. Baby and children’s skin is very sensitive and can often erupt in rashes from commercial products designed for them. My son’s skin is especially sensitive, and thankfully, he was born into a family that had already discovered the best natural beauty products. Our family has tried many natural baby soaps, including bar soaps, and have found the best value and product to be Healthy Times Honeysuckle Baby Bath. At only $2.58 a bottle, this liquid soap is affordable and gentle. My son, who developed a horrible rash from Johnson’s Baby Soap in the hospital after surgery, has never had even the slightest reaction to Healthy Times Honeysuckle Baby Bath. We use Healthy Times Honeysuckle Baby Bath on both of our children as shampoo and body soap. Liquid soap lasts longer in the bathtub and is easy to travel with, as well. Healthy Times also makes shampoo, conditioner, and sweet violet lotion. Healthy Times makes natural beauty products affordable for every family.

Thanks for reccomending this! I’ve been eyeing at my local Co Op but I don’t know anyone that uses it.

I purchased this for my daughter before she was born and quickly realized that it contains SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) which is a probable carcinogen. I wasn’t sure if you were aware of this.
California Baby Products are all hypallergenic and do not contain any chemicals! (I don’t get payed to promote their products, I just like them!)
I love your blog. Thanks for keeping everyone informed of living a greener lifestyle with children!

Snopes claims that this is an urban legend.
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/shampoo.asp, but many other sites debate the safety of it (http://scentsnsensibility.com/newsletter/May0701.htm). It is derived from coconut, and Toms of Maine stands behind their use (http://www.tomsofmaine.com/toms/ifs/sls.asp), whereas Aubrey Organics (http://www.aubrey-organics.com/about/articles/shampoo.cfm) is opposed to its usage. I think Sodium Laureth Sulfate has been debunked as carcinogenic, but it can be an irritant. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I was not aware of this issue. I too like California Baby products, but they are a lot more expensive. It is so hard to stay on top of all these things, that’s why I started the blog!

Erin, I just read more carefully the information on Aubrey Organics site. SLES may not be the urban legend it has been made out to be. I think I will try another product for my children. Thank you for your comments.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention too, Erin. I had heard of SLS, but had never really done much research in regard to them. I hadn’t realized the problems that could be associated with them.
