PipoPipo: Super Cute Eco-Friendly Socks for Infants

Screen shot 2013-02-13 at 6.44.39 AMAre you looking for a unique baby shower gift? pipopipo Friends Bamboo Infant Socks are super cute and eco-friendly!

  • Rayon Made from Earth Friendly Sustainable Bamboo
  • Non-Slip Foot Treads
  • Child Safe Materials
  • Reusable Bamboo Package
  • Made from Sustainable Raw Material

These socks are so darn cute, I can see them being a problem for an infant to keep on. They would be excellent for entertaining baby lying on her back reaching for her socks. My babies did this baby yoga anyway to pull off their socks, and they didn’t have cute little critters on them.

As far as bamboo being an eco-friendly fabric, I think the verdict is still out on that one. Unfortunately, strong chemical solvents are used to make fabric from this grass.

Pipopipo reports:

Sustainable Raw Material

  • Bamboo can be grown without irrigation, pesticides or chemical fertilizers
  • Produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees
  • Is a soil erosion inhibitor
  • Grows rapidly and rarely needs replanting

Bamboo can be grown without chemical fertilizers, but any gardener with bamboo in the yard knows it is actually a heavy feeder requiring lots of nitrogen.  Easy to do organically, but without certification, who’s to say the bamboo fabric you love is actually green?

I do like the bamboo box the socks come in. That is definitely reusable!

These socks are super cute but don’t buy them thinking they are super eco-friendly. The truth is they contain synthetic nylon, spandex, and polyester as well. An [amazon_link id=”B003WR5TA4″ target=”_blank” ]organic cotton infant sock[/amazon_link] is a better choice.

Great review! If I hadn’t read all the way through, I would not have seen both the pros AND cons of these cute little socks. Bamboo always feels so soft, but we do usually but cotton.
