a spoonful of sugar can save children\'s livesA friend of mine’s daughter went to Africa.  She had to end her trip early, fly to the US, and be hospitalized for malaria. She was a lucky American child who could get medical care for this disease that affects 350–500 million people worldwide each year.  Her life was never threatened.

Salma Hayak Breastfeeds African Infant

Salma Hayek went to Africa for a Unicef trip.  Alright, so I’m not pleased that the trip was sponsored by Proctor & Gamble, animal tester and phthalate distributor extraordinaire. Or that now Hayek is touring the talk shows, telling mamas to buy landfill diapers from Pampers, because then P & G will donate money for tetanus vaccinations in Africa.

But I love that she cross-nursed a baby to take a stand for breastfeeding.

My baby would be very proud to share her milk.

Use Kid Energy to Pump Water

We used to have one of these merry-go-rounds on our playground when I taught elementary school. The insurance agent made the school remove it, because it went too fast. Just think, we could have been pumping water from the school well with all that kid energy!
