Sponsored Video: What is the best eco-friendly idea for birthday parties?

Children’s birthday parties are full of single use throwaway products, like princess paper plates, decorations, and cheap party favors. One way to green the party is to skip the paper plates, but washing plates after a party is kind of a drag. Seventh Generation has a unique idea that kids are sure to think is fun: eat cake right from the table! Go ahead…don’t worry.

If you clean with safe products, there’s no risk of chemical contamination. A party like the one featured in the video is sure one kids will be talking about and remember for along time! I am not sure I would be so bold as to try it, but I love the idea.

Traditional cleaning products that used to be the only thing available at supermarkets are full of toxic chemical ingredients. Not only do they change our indoor air quality, they are absorbed through our skin when cleaning and remain on surfaces to be absorbed by all that touch them.  Even if you don’t let your kids eat cake right off the counter, what child does not eat something that has fallen off their fork and landed on the counter.  It happens, even when not by design.

Toxic cleaning products have never been part of my home. Never. From the time I graduated high school and moved into my own apartment in college, we cleaned with Seventh Generation. Now the brand has grown to the point you can find it in supermarkets and not just health food stores. The line has expanded too, so any speciality cleaner you want, they make. There are no excuses for using toxic cleaners anymore.

Recently, we rented a vacation home. I bought Seventh Generation laundry soap and dishwashing powder for our visit, but I didn’t want to buy a whole line of products for cleaning the home when we checked out. Unfortunately, the products that were there were gnarly toxic ones. I used them with trepidation, was afraid to breath, and didn’t want to touch anything once I was done (not for fear of dirtying what was cleaned, but for fear of toxins). I wish I would have bought some Seventh Generation multi-purpose cleaner.

Why do people clean with rubber gloves? Intuitively and from experience, generations of homemakers knew the products they were using were bad for their skin. Switch to green cleaning products, and you can ditch those rubber gloves. Your hands won’t age prematurely or absorb chemicals.

I think the best part of Seventh Generation, other than the skip the plates cake eating party, is the products are so safe that the whole family can help clean.
