Steps for Choosing a Reputable Vizsla Breeder

Purchasing a purebred puppy from a responsible party ensures a long and happy relationship between owner and dog. Finding a reputable individual requires more than a financial investment. Indeed, taking the time to find a credible, trustworthy Vizsla puppy breeder will likely save time and money in the end. Relying on their experience and observations of a litter decreases the likelihood of a disappointing fit with the puppy into a new family.

An excellent starting point is looking for a local Vizsla representative online or through the recommendation of a local veterinarian. In addition to this, the American Kennel Club (AKC) offers several locating resources, and even recommends beginning the search process by reaching out to the AKC Parent Club. For example, Vizsla Parent Clubs control, manage and represent the recommended criterion for the breed and administer programs for their improvement, providing a vast, valuable source of information for potential purchasers.

After locating several choices, spending time talking with owners eliminates some from the list right away. In particular, specific questions to ask include health guarantees, how much breeding experience they have, veterinary references, kennel visitations and, of course, the cost of the pup. Breeders should be knowledgeable and honest about the pros and cons of Vizsla ownership, and should be registered by the AKC or another nationally recognized, organized Vizsla club registry. As a matter of fact, a registered Vizsla puppy breeder produces more healthy, well-conditioned puppies with pure bloodlines than those who are not registered.

Finally, look at the kennel area and ask if the parents are onsite. If they are, ask to see them individually to ascertain their personalities and character apart from their puppies. Poor health and bad temperament are typically genetic.

A responsible Vizsla puppy breeder with a sincere interest in producing top quality dogs will have expertise in breeding experience. The best breeders show interest in the lives their dogs lead after be placed in a home by asking questions about prospective buyers, their lifestyle and the family.
