Eco Solutions for Common Ailments

Finding an eco-friendly solution for all that ails us isn’t always an easy task. People are becoming increasingly aware of the effects of the products we use – both on us and on future generations. To combat the effects, there are natural and safe alternatives that don’t involve polluting the environment or our bodies.

Acne

If you suffer from acne, especially well into adulthood, you’ve probably tried nearly every product under the sun. The problem is, some of these products are not only actually harming your skin, but they’re polluting our streams and oceans. Thankfully, there are a slew of product lines you can use that are eco-friendly. Burt’s Bees, Queen Helen’s, Aveeno, and Avalon Organics are among some of the leaders while big name companies like Neutrogena are even climbing aboard. There are also homemade recipes that include charcoal, oatmeal, honey, baking soda, or coconut oil.

Diabetes

Diabetes is caused by the body not properly producing or regulating insulin. While the best way to manage diabetes is through a healthy vegetable-rich diet and exercise, recent studies have found benefits in herbal treatments using aloe, fenugreek, cinnamon, and garlic, among others. To combat the painful effects diabetes commonly has on feet, DiabeticSocks.com offers a line of sensitive foot friendly socks. Thankfully, they can be washed and reused for quite some time.

Nausea

Nausea can be caused by any number of conditions and you don’t need a coating of the pink gooey stuff to make it go away. Ginger treats nausea naturally and is even available in gum or mints. Some products, like Mommy’s Bliss, combine fennel and peppermint for extra benefits and are great for kids and adults alike. Vitamist also offers a Vitamotion oral spray with ginger and other vitamins. Alternatively, you can use Seaband motionsickness bands that use acupressure to treat nausea.

Joint Pain

Joint Pain can be caused by an experience or general aging. Some foods and herbs are particularly beneficial for joint pains. Glucosamine and chondroitin occur naturally within the body and can be taken through supplements. Turmeric, ginger, and omega-3s are all effective pain relievers. You can also try moisturizing your joints with olive oil. Olive oil contains oleocanthal which blocks inflammatory enzymes within the body.

Allergies

Allergies can strike at any moment, even if you didn’t have allergies as a child. The symptoms run across the board with congestion, sinus pressure, headaches, coughing, sneezing, and itchy eyes. Rather than running to the gambit of over the counter medications, take a look at herbal supplements that can treat the symptoms. Rootology contains 13 different herbs including Xanthium fruit extract to treat any number of environmental allergens. You can also look into an air purifier which can treat a single room or connect to your ventilation system. Replacing air filters regularly will reduce allergens as well.

In the end, it’s about finding products that work for your green lifestyle. When taking any prescription medications, you should consult your doctor to ensure there are no harmful side effects. The benefits of natural solutions can increase a healthy lifestyle for you and your family and teach children to follow your lead.
